The theme for the 2012  Rocky Mountain Seminar Prospector exhibit is "Visions of Santa Fe".  It is recommended that you follow the theme, but a theme of your choice is acceptable.  Just imagine all the design possibilities - desert, cactus, Indian embroidery, pictographs, south western dwellings. I could go on, but you get the idea, the list is endless. I am sure there will be a very colorful exhibit at the Seminar.  The deadline for receipt of the application is September 1, 2012. The design does not have to be finished at this time, just submit the application.  The design must be finished to exhibit.  Since we are the only EGA chapter that has a Prospectors group and since this will be a National Seminar, we are also asking for designs that have been exhibited  at prior seminars. Since space is limited, please try to select your one favorite to display. We are also hoping for varied stitching techniques.  The application form, located on the RMR website,  can be used for both the current and previous submissions. The EGA insurance  or waiver of insurance form must be submitted at the same time.

For newer members, the Prospector design needs to be an original stitched design.  Any size is acceptable.  It needs to be finished in the manner of your choice.  This is not a juried exhibit, it is a showcase for the talented members of the Rocky Mountain Region. If you have question, please feel free to contact me at jalee@wirelessbeehive.com

Just what is the Prospector's challenge?

Prospectors was created to challenge , develop and encourage  individual  creativity and designing inherent in each Rocky Mountain Region member.

The rules are relatively simple:

  1. Any Rocky Mountain Region EGA member in good standing may participate.

You do not have to attend the seminar.

  1. You may enter up to 3 pieces each year.
  2. It is not required, but recommended, that each piece follow the challenge or theme.
  3. Each piece should be worked within the past two years.
  4. Teaching pieces which have not been contracted will be accepted.
  5. No piece that has been shown at a prior Prospectors Exhibit will be accepted unless it is an encore exhibit..
  6. Size restrictions will be announced each year, if required.
  7. Each work must be an original or an adaptation and must have been done with an eyed needle for part of the piece.
  8. Pieces must be complete and display ready.
  9. Each piece must be registered prior to the deadline by completing the Prospectors registration form and completing and EGA insurance form or waiver.  No piece can be accepted without insurance information and identification information attached to the entry.
  10. Each piece must be delivered to the exhibit by you or your representative
  11. Each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Participation, or in the case of a judged show, ribbons will be presented.

Any RMR chapter member may enter a piece in the exhibit.  3 pieces ? One will do nicely for starters. .Usually the seminar theme or Prospectors challenge is broad enough to allow for various design ideas.  If you stitch following the current theme, it is obvious that the piece was stitched in the last year and it has not been exhibited at a prior date. Teaching pieces that are not contracted   are acceptable.  In other words, teachers may submit a design if they are not currently teaching it or have not signed a contract to teach the piece in the future.  Size restrictions, if applicable, will be announced  at the time of  the theme announcement..

Each piece must be your original  creation and design or you may use an adaptation.  An adaptation means that you have taken another's design or idea and substantially changed it. Be very careful of copyrights if you are using adaptations.  Be sure that at least part of the piece is done with an eyed needle.  The piece must be completely stitched, finished and ready for display.

You need to complete  registration and insurance forms,(can be found on the web)  and have them in the hands of the chairman prior to the deadline. Since seminar attendance is not a requirement , you may send your piece to the exhibit  with a representative/ proxy.  This proxy is named on the application form. Please  complete the (may--may not) be photographed portion of the application blank.

All chapter newsletter editors, please feel free to use all or any part of the above in your newsletters to promote the Prospectors program.
